For me, Creole isn’t just a language — it’s a way of connecting, expressing, and celebrating who we are. Haiti is the only country in the world where Haitian Creole is the majority population’s native language and also one of the official languages — alongside French. But here’s the twist: over 95% of Haitians speak Creole fluently, while far fewer are fluent in French! Creole was once considered a “kitchen language,” but today it’s a powerful symbol of pride, resilience, and identity. The language blends French roots with West African languages, Spanish, Taíno, and even a bit of English — making it one of the most vibrant and expressive languages you’ll ever hear.
